About the Training Academy and Forum
OTA provides curriculum-based training for two critical areas relevant for our industry.

1.       Email Regulatory Compliance – This course  includes a review of the legal principles behind the US CAN-SPAM Act and the Canadian Anti-Spam Law - including guidelines for compliance.  As security, privacy and data protection regulations are converging, this is a vital program for  interactive marketers, brand managers, and privacy staff.  OTA Instructors include representatives from the FTC, Canadian regulatory authorities, and Shaun Brown a leading expert in Canadian email and data protection law.  Key topics include CAN-SPAM and CASL, as well as the regulatory framework applied to data security and breach notification in the US, Canada and EU.  This full day program is excellent for anyone from email newbies to seasoned veterans.   A working program outline is posted at  This program qualifies for 6, IAPP CPE credits.

2.       Email Authentication Workshop.   Email authentication can be an organization’s best defense against spoofed email, including  spear phishing and other malicious email exploits.  Authentication can help protect brand domains from being spoofed, improve deliverability of legitimate email, and help protect employees from receiving deceptive email.  While many organizations authenticate some  mail streams, the vast majority of marketers are not yet authenticating all mail streams.   The OTA workshop includes an overview on email  issues and standards,  with detailed discussion and hands-on exercises for implementing and testing Sender Policy Framework (SPF) and DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM).  Discussion use cases include third party mailers, decentralized outbound mail servers, mailing lists and mail forwarding.  Attendees will learn the business and technical value and the steps to authenticate outbound email and inbound email.   This workshop is led by OTA Certified Instructors  George Bilbrey, President of Return Path, Mike Hammer of American Greetings Interactive and Pat Peterson, President of Authentication Metrics.  This program will review adoption across market segments and implementation trends at both the top- domain and sub-domains level of leading brands.
